5.1 Emission techniques

The main outstanding feature of x-ray emission techniques is the capability of determining the elemental composition of the analysed sample in a fast way. The characteristic radiation from the elements constituting the sample is excited with a suitable source and measured with a detector capable of sorting out the detected photons by either wavelengths or energies.
